Welcome
to this, the first CD-rom based Instruction and Prototype Guide
which we have developed. We have taken advantage of the medium to
provide much more detail than we can include in traditional
paper-based Instructions and Prototype Notes. In particular we have
been able to use step-by step constructional photographs to
accompany the full instruction drawings, which we have used wherever
possible instead of voluminous written notes. These are backed up by
selected prototype photographs which are quick and easy to view. We
hope you will find this new way of presenting our instructions
helpful when building your model, and welcome your comments on it.
One
of the main innovations in this kit is the provision of
“working” inside motion driven off a standard axle using cams
instead of the usual crank and split axle approach. We have included
a large amount of material around this feature, both model and a set
of photographs of the preserved 4027 whilst its boiler was off the
frames. Hopefully this will give you all of the information you need
to successfully build this part of the kit.
Navigation
– you can use the “BACK” button on your Internet browser and
the menu on the left hand side of each page to move around the
guide. Click on any of the diagrams, photographs or etches to
display it full size on the page. When you have selected the picture
or diagram you will see a small square in the bottom right hand
corner – this is an expansion button and allows you to “zoom
in”. (If you can’t see the button at first, move your mouse
around this corner and the top left corner of the picture until the
button appears).
