Our blog

Our plans for 2026 begin with the completion of the Coronation kit which we aim to have on sale by Expo EM. We have now finalised the artwork for the three different tender types and have started ordering components for production. Jim Smith-Wright has been building another model from the final pre-production etches - see his blog.

Also due for release in the early part of the year are more resin boilered GER 0-6-0s, for the J19/2 0-6-0 then a J19/1 and a J18. We are completing the final artwork for the finescale chassis kit for the GCR O4 2-8-0 and tender.

We have completed our analysis of the former Martin Finney kits and will be releasing the final few kits of the LNER and LSWR kits during the year. These will be the last complete kits for the models because we are unable to produce castings for a number of components.

During 2026 we will be selling the final few LNWR locomotive kits and the R&E GCR rolling stock kits as we use up our remaining component stocks.

Details of all of these will be posted on our website and blog as the kits are ready for sale. Email us if you have a particular kit which you want to reserve and we will advise you of its availability.

Note this does not apply to the Finney GWR kits or the LMS kits. These will be available to order either ex-stock or to produce from our component stocks, although it should be noted that obtaining some parts is getting much more difficult, costly and uncertain. We may require a deposit if we have to order etches or castings specifically to complete your order; this may involve a delay of up to three months because of the current delivery times from some of our suppliers.

Finally, we are changing the minimum mail order value and P&P charges to reflect the latest prices. The minimum (excluding P&P) for UK customers is now £30 and for overseas customers £100. The scale of postal charges has been amended because we are now only sending packages which are tracked and fully insured.

Austerity/LNER J94 0-6-0ST kit

GER J16/J17 0-6-0 and tender kit

GWR 3150 2-6-2T. This is a completely new kit to the highest possible standards. It represents the engines as rebuilt from 1919 onwards, with larger (deeper) bunkers, longer smokeboxes and superheated boilers.

This kit produces a complete finescale chassis in either EM or P4 for the Dapol GWR 43/53/63xx 2-6-0 model first released in late 2020. It only requires a locomotive body and a tender (which are available as spares) and not a complete Dapol locomotive.

Produced for us by Andy Vincent of Meon Valley Models, these are the best 4mm scale 3D-printed wagons that we have ever seen. They even have "readable" lettering on the axlebox covers!

The bodies have full interior detail on sides and floor and are designed to fit onto our etched brass sprung wagon underframes; axleboxes and buffers are included.

There are 14 types for Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon opens, two Charles Roberts 16ft, two RCH 1923 7-plank and two RCH 1923 8-plank wagons and Midland Railway D299 and D351 opens.

Finescale chassis for the Bachmann LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0

RCH 1923 Morton braked 9ft wooden solebar sub-frame. It is designed to fit under Slaters, Cambrian and Parkside wagons and includes finely detailed single-sided brakes activated from both sides.

Other easy-to-assemble sprung sub-frames for the RCH 1907, RCH 1923 and Gloucester 9ft wheelbase Private Owner wagons and RCH 1932 10ft Morton braked steel or wooden underframe wagons are also available. All types incorporate springing as standard.

3-link couplings

We have sourced some very fine, pre-blackened chain which can be paired with our coupling hook etches to produce superb 3-link couplings.

The chain is available in two types - scale and fine, and with either copper or iron links.

Martin Finney 4mm scale kits

We have parts to make-up most of the former Martin Finney range of 4mm kits - six LSWR/SR locomotives and three tenders, fifteen GWR locomotives and three tenders, four LNER locomotives and four tenders and two LSWR van kits.

Please email us if you wish to buy any of these because we do not keep complete kits for all of these in stock and may have to pack a kit to order and purchase any components needed for the kit. In the latter case we will require payment up front before we order the components to complete the kit.

The parts stocks for the LNER and LSWR/SR kits are almost exhausted and we will give details of the last few of each kit in the New Year when we have assessed the position.

Discontinued products

We no longer sell 4mm and 2mm etched windows, 4mm coupling rods and axle spacing and buffer height gauges.

These were discontinued at the end of 2023 and are now with London Road Models.

We have included many photographs of completed models and these take the form of thumbnail pictures which, when clicked, open out to full size photographs which can be viewed in (sometimes excruciating) close-up.

For most of our range, we have downloadable instructions and pictures of the etches where appropriate.
