F.W.Hawksworth introduced a flat-sided tender with his ‘County’ class 4-6-0 locomotives of 1945. These 30 tenders were 8’6” wide, with a capacity of 4,000 gallons of water and 7 tons of coal. 107 examples of the 8’0” wide version, which also carried 4,000 gallons but with coal capacity reduced to 6 tons, were built between 1946 and 1951, and paired originally with the later ‘Castle’ and ‘Modified Hall’ class 4-6-0s. ‘Star’ No.4062 was also paired with one in 1950. This kit produces the 8’0” wide tenders, many of which found their way behind earlier 'Castles' and 'Halls' during the 1950s and 1960s. |
